What if famous video games had their boxes redone in the style of a Penguin Classics paperback? The idea for the gallery on Kotaku came about from an absolutely brilliant graphic designer's personal project. Olly Moss rocks. After you take a look at what he's inspired by clicking the link to the gallery above, take a gander at his Flickr stream.

Oh yeah. And if you're currently living in a college dorm, you may want to print yourself out a set of these to keep your roommate(s) at bay. Olly is awesome. Just awesome.

I can sum up my thoughts about this project in three sentences.

Coolest. Dad. Ever.

This guy has been painting his kid's brown paper lunch bags every day. I wonder if his children truly appreciate the awesomeness of their dad. It's not just that he's an awesome illustrator. It's also his choice of subject matter. I mean, Blanka, man! Blanka and Mr. Bump! So awesome. Unwrap your PB&J, pop open your Tupperware of carrot sticks, and marvel at his latest creations at the Lunch Bag Art blog.

Garfield Minus Garfield

Yay! A new web comic! That's not so new! But it's new to me! So it goes here!

You can generally tell how excited I am about things by counting the number of exclamation marks in my typing. That first sentence had five! And that previous one was six! Seven! Eight! Will it never end?!?

I was reading The Onion on Wednesday night and they mentioned that garfieldminusgarfield.net had a book out now. I'd never heard of it, so I tromped my virtual moccasins right on over there. In removing the title character from Jim Davis's strip, the creator of Garfield minus Garfield shows how neurotic John Arbuckle is. Check out the strip on November 20th, 2008 for an especially good example of how depressing Garfield actually is. So depressing, it's hilarious! What a fabulous idea! (That's #12 by the way.) Now if only someone would make a Curious George minus Curious George, a certain yellow hatted man's true intentions would be revealed...

Animator vs Animation

I remember a video I saw long ago along the lines of the one above. The one I'm thinking of was stop-motion with a pencil and paper animation acting up. Because I enjoy a fair share of Flash animating myself, this one is so much cooler. Yay for great animations!

In light of the latest addition to the comics page, I'd like to present you all with a simple logical syllogism. Observe:

Major Premise: All good comics make Tony happy.
Minor Premise: Fleep is a good comic.
Conclusion: Given that Fleep is a good comic, Fleep must make Tony happy.

Which it does. Very much. I like its dark, sketchy style and the story is simple and unique. Enjoy!

Area Goro

I stumbled upon this website browsing for cool art. Goro does some amazing stuff. From paintings to 3d animation, Goro's craft blew me away.

I love imaginative art. Goro's style reminds me a bit of Tony Deterlizzi's artwork when he illustrated TSR's Planescape expansion. Whimsical and yet believable, Goro does a marvelous job making the fantastic seem concrete. Especially take a look through the Speedpaintings section of his gallery.

Spectacular stuff.

The REAL Story of the Super Mario Brothers

So this really isn't a comic. Nor is it even "comic" in the classical sense. A buddy of mine forwarded me a link to Alxlen a while back and I just got around to taking a look at it. Alex (the website's creator) has done some other stuff too, but the Mario Brothers opera is really the coolest one on the site. It's pretty slow moving with some unnecessarily long shots of 8-bit scenery, but overall, it presents a fresh, albeit tragic, take on Mario's story.

Dr. McNinja has been around for a few years, but I kind of forgot about him until a few days ago. It's downright hilarious. On top of that, it's well drawn and each issue is a full length comic book!
